The world’s first Tesla diner opened up in Los Angeles along the iconic Route 66.

Its got a futuristic look, but the menu has been dividing opinion online.

However, one positive has been highlighted without dispute.

When Tesla announced it was opening a futuristic diner with modern EV infrastructure, people were naturally curious.

And the design certainly generated a lot of buzz, with a saucer-shaped rooftop, more than 75 Supercharger stations, and two 45-foot LED screens.

It’s a concept that’s been teased by Elon Musk as far back as 2018, but it’s only become a reality in 2025.

There’s something distinctly Back to the Future II about the concept, but some would argue that’s part of its charm.

And as if all of that wasn’t cool enough, diners at the restaurant will be served popcorn by Optimus robots.

The reception hasn’t been universally positive, though, as the menu has divided opinion, with people split on whether it was good value for money.

But one aspect of the restaurant experience has been drawing near-universal praise online.

That being the fact that Tesla covers tipping for staff.

This was highlighted on X by user Jeremy Judkins, who shared a photo of a service screen.

Alongside his price of $9.88, a message read: ‘Gratuity: Tesla covers tipping for staff.’

“Best part about Tesla diner,” Judkins wrote.

Many others agreed with his assessment.

“Meaning they are paid well. As they should be if you want an actual good experience in your restaurant,” one user wrote.

“Thank God. Tipping culture is insane, W for Tesla,” another said.

“Every US company should be required by law to do this,” a third user commented.

“Train staff to provide a certain level of service and pay them adequately to do it. Simple.”

Tipping culture in America – the seemingly endless debate

There are a lot of cultural practices that set America apart from other countries, and one of them is tipping culture.

It’s custom that diners tip their servers in restaurants, but the amount that people should be expected to tip is a divisive topic online.

For some people, 20 percent is a standard tip.

But this isn’t universally agreed upon.

In one Reddit forum, Americans were hashing out how much they think is appropriate to tip in a restaurant.

“I’ve gone back to 15 percent for good service, no one is getting 20 percent anymore,” one user said.

“For sit down meals, where a server is taking your order, leave 20 percent,” another stated.

“I usually tip between 15 percent and 18 percent, and I’m not sure who decided it was 20,” a third Redditor admitted.

Maybe MrBeast had the right idea when he tipped a waitress with a brand new car.

Although, admittedly, most of us aren’t super-rich YouTubers with cars to spare.
