A viral clip showing what appeared to be a Tesla owner towing a generator behind his electric car quickly sparked a flood of jokes and discussions about range anxiety online.

The strange video seemed to show the EV pulling a small trailer with a loud gasoline generator attached to the charging cable.

As the car drove along, the generator appeared to be running, supposedly charging the vehicle while it was still moving.

It didn’t take long for the internet to explode with reactions.

The Tesla is tackling range anxiety in the most direct manner

In the clip, the electric car cruised down the road while the trailer-mounted generator hummed away behind it, with what looked like a charging cable running from the generator to the car.

Drivers passing by seemed just as confused as viewers online.

Some people in nearby vehicles were seen filming the unusual setup with their phones, clearly amazed at what they were witnessing.

Unsurprisingly, the internet had a lot to say about it about this particular Tesla.

Many commenters joked that burning gasoline to charge an electric vehicle completely defeated the purpose of owning one in the first place.

Others described it as the ‘ultimate range extender,’ while some simply called the idea ridiculous.

However, the video also tapped into a very real concern for many potential EV buyers: range anxiety.

Many would-be EV owners are generally scared that an EV might run out of battery power before reaching a charging station.

To be fair, modern EVs can often travel hundreds of miles on a single charge.

However, the worry still lingers for drivers who are used to the convenience of gas stations on nearly every corner.

Because of that fear, unusual or exaggerated clips about EV charging tend to spread quickly online.

Videos like this one often play into the idea that electric cars aren’t practical for long trips, even though real-world EV infrastructure has improved dramatically in recent years.

The video footage is likely not real

But not everyone was convinced the video was real.

Some viewers quickly pointed out that the license plate in the clip appeared distorted and inconsistent between frames, which is a common sign of AI-generated footage.

Others noticed strange visual glitches around the trailer and wiring that suggested the entire scene may have been created digitally.

Whether it’s real or AI-generated, the bizarre video clearly struck a nerve.

In just a short time, it managed to spark a conversation about EV technology and range anxiety.
