A YouTuber from Washington bought a Chinese excavator from Alibaba, only to find a multitude of problems with it after just a few hours.

Einar Mikkelsen bought the digger directly from Alibaba, which has become the home of some very cheap Chinese utility vehicles.

Naturally, Mikkelsen wanted to find out if it was a bit of a bargain, or if the cheap and cheerful nature of the excavator was obvious when he used it.

After getting his hands on it, he found at least 10 faults with the excavator after only 50 hours of use.

Hydraulic motors were a big problem for the Chinese excavator

One of the first issues Mikkelsen encountered was with the hydraulic motors.

They’re located behind a shield on the tracks of the digger.

It didn’t take long for them to start leaking, with one doing so after 15 hours and another one just 20 hours later.

Fixing them, though, was relatively straightforward.

But Mikkselsen said he had to replace a lot of hydraulic fluid, as the excavator had lost so much.

Slightly less concerning was an issue that the excavator suffered with a window in one of the doors.

The channels for the window are mounted too far apart, so there is a lot of travel, which could cause the glass to shatter if it moves too much.

Further issues frustrated the owner of the excavator

Stepping into the excavator, Mikkelsen revealed a few other problems with the cheap digger.

A light switch was controlling nothing whatsoever, with not a single thing happening with the lights when he pressed the button.

It turned out that the light switch controls the windshield wipers, hence Mikkelsen’s immense confusion.

That wasn’t the only switch situation that was confusing however.

A hidden switch activated power to the wiper while another controlled the fab above the driver.

The final issue that Mikkelsen described was when he tried to control the digger arm.

When he did so, the controls simultaneously changed the direction of travel for the digger.

For example, the YouTuber said he tried to close the bucket.

But doing so sent the excavator into a right turn.

In many ways, it’s impressive how many problems the digger had in such a short space of time!
