A 105-year-old Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost has been stolen from the grounds of a hotel in Essex, leaving its 82-year-old owner ‘heartbroken’.
Rolls-Royce produced 7,874 Silver Ghosts between 1907 and 1926 and it was hailed as the ‘best car in the world’.
These days, there are several examples still out there.
Including a 1920s model that was recently stolen, on top of a trailer, from outside a hotel.

How the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost was stolen
The stunning 1920 Roll-Royce Silver Ghost was taken from outside Orsett Hall Hotel in Essex.
The theft took place just hours before the classic car was due to be loaded onto a ferry to Helsinki alongside 25 other Rolls-Royce vehicles.

Owner Brian Fitton bought the car several years back at auction and has spent years traveling the world with his beloved Rolls-Royce.
He’s offering a reward of £2,000 ($2,745) for his car’s safe return.
“To have the vehicle stolen ahead of dropping it off at Tilbury Docks for the ferry to Helsinki is absolutely heartbreaking,” he told The Telegraph.
“I am hoping someone can spot the car as it’s so rare and help me get the trip of a lifetime back on track – hence the reward.”
He told the publication the car, worth around $400,000, is irreplaceable.
“It’s an original and has even got the original Lady on the grill.”
Essex police told the BBC it was currently investigating the theft.
The 1920 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost has the registration number U 5694 and chassis number 39EE.
Anyone with information about the car has been urged to contact Essex Police.
The Silver Ghost is a very special car
Launched in 1907, the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost was originally known as the 40/50 h.p.
But chassis no. 60551, registered AX201, was given the nickname Silver Ghost due to its super-quiet engine, and the rest is history.

The Silver Ghost was praised as the ‘best car ever’ by Autocar in 1907.
In 2005, the AX201 Silver Ghost was the world’s most valuable car and was insured for $35 million.
And it’s not just that original model that’s worth a fortune; any Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost will cost you a pretty penny.
According to Classic, the average Silver Ghost goes for a little over $424,000, with the highest price recorded at $2.5 million.
