A 17-year-old bought an abandoned Piper Cherokee airplane, and he decided to take it to the YouTuber Jimmy’s World to take the rescue up a notch.
A Texas teen had a real win when he scooped up a long-parked Piper Cherokee plane, which he planned to turn into his first training plane.
Before he began the repairs, he called in backup in the form of YouTuber Jimmy’s World to inspect it and attempt a first start.
What followed was a barn-find comeback of the century.

A 17-year-old breathes new life into an abandoned Piper Cherokee
When 17-year-old Peter found a PA-28-140 Piper airplane that had been sitting for years, he decided it was going to become his training plane.
Before he began repairs, he brought in Jimmy’s World for a proper once-over, because he knew that kind of expertise was required.
The engine bay looked far better than anyone expected: nickel cylinders, tidy valve covers, fresh-looking magnetos, a performance exhaust, and a Sky-Tec starter paired with what appeared to be a good alternator.

Outside, the paint was rough, but the general structure checked out.
The rivet lines looked clean; it had gap seals and even little LED navigation lights, the fuel looked good, and the tank was clean, but the moment of truth was upon them.
The little plane fired up on the first try, even after years of neglect; the little Piper sounded ready to work.

Peter picks a pickled Piper
Jimmy laid out a realistic path to making the little airplane airworthy.
He suggested that Peter budget about $10,000 for the first push: fixing a ding, replacing all of the flexible hoses, tyres, and tubes, minor sheet-metal, and a thorough annual inspection.
Paint can wait til later because it doesn’t affect functionality.
Then he kindly took it up a notch, pledging to cover the mechanical bills to get Peter training, and asked for a local business to help finish the rescue.
It’s a lovely story of smart purchasing, as well as Jimmy’s kindness, and it seems as though Peter and his little plane that could will be in the air sooner rather than later.
