This 1967 Shelby GT500 was found deep in Michigan after it was left untouched for almost four decades.

The owner first purchased the muscle car in 1967 and was a clear fan of the car from the get-go.

As much as the car was loved, like any vehicle, some elements needed work.

But, it turns out that the story of the owner and his Shelby is a timeless love affair.

This 1967 Shelby GT500 was found untouched after 40 years

Often, older cars, especially muscle cars, can be forgotten about for years as technology and engineering advance.

From Dodge to Pontiac, many cars are uncovered after being hidden away for years.

But this might just be one of the best hidden finds that we’ve ever seen.

Auto Archaeology uncovered the story and even got to speak to the owner, who revealed the vibrant history of the car.

The car has been protected since 1989, and was bought by the owner, Mr Fetter, in 1967.

At the time, Mr Fetter was a Ford employee, and thanks to his occupation, he received a $100 discount.

However, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows as the car had many issues, with the Shelby owner even writing to Carol Shelby with diagrams to explain what was really wrong with his vehicle, such as the taillights.

The 1967 Shelby GT500 was clearly well-loved, with the owner racking up miles over the years, with his family loving it too.

After it was put in the barn in 1987, it had remained untouched, but still well kept in a dry area, with the engine being replaced once.

It was pulled out to be washed once, but was still untouched and covered safely mostly.

“The car is a time capsule,” said the creator.

Unfortunately, though, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, with the owner, Mr Fetter, sadly passing away.

His son ultimately made the decision to part with the car, too, but the barn find really did uncover a piece of car history with a heartwarming story attached.

In fact, Auto Archaeology himself even commented on how he felt privileged to speak with the owner, as recently as 2019.

The Shelby is still very much in demand across the country

First produced in the 60s, the Shelby model is still very much loved by gearheads all over the US.

In fact, the Shelby GT500 even decided to go up against a Chevy Corvette Z06 in a muscle car showdown, and there was one clear winner.

Plus, another 1968 Shelby GT500 Mustang was found covered in dust in a warehouse, but upon discovery was set to be given a second chance.
