A man in New Jersey found this 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle that had been parked for almost 40 years – and it was hiding a cool surprise under the hood.
Chevrolet launched the Chevelle all the way back in 1964 and was an almost immediate hit with car enthusiasts.
The iconic muscle car had a fairly short but sweet production run that wrapped up in 1977.
Despite having a relatively short-lived production, the Chevelle was one of Chevy’s best-selling nameplates.

The Chevrolet Chevelle spent decades off the road
That means that almost half a century since the last Chevelle rolled off the production line, you still come across a fair few of them today – such as this one-of-three model found in a barn in Ohio or this convertible edition that’s so rare even Chevy isn’t sure how many were made.
While not quite as rare as either of those, this 1970 model discovered in New Jersey is still a pretty awesome find.
In a listing on eBay, the owner says the Chevelle spent 39 years parked – but despite its decades off the road it looks to be in pretty solid shape.
Seller octanevalley, says the car has had just two owners and has been stashed away in a garage since 1985.
It was hiding a neat surprise under the hood
According to the listing, the car has just 52,000 miles on the clock, which makes sense given how long it’s been off the road.
It still has its original paintwork and panels, although they’re definitely in need of a bit of TLC, and the seller warns that it will need rust repair on the lower fenders.
The interior door panels and dashboard are in a similarly good condition.
And under the hood, there’s a bit of a surprise, with the Chevelle holding onto its original 307 cubic inch engine that’s still in working order.
However, it isn’t ready to hit the road just yet, not least because its brakes don’t work.
Nonetheless, this neat-looking Chevelle could make a fun restoration project for the right classic car fan.
