This 1971 Dodge Charger NASCAR was found after spending 40 years in storage.

YouTube channel David W paid a visit to a barn out in Ohio to take a look at this cool car with a super extensive history.

It was built by Petty Enterprises and featured in the NASCAR Winston Cup series before going on to race in the ARCA 200 in 1977.

After that, it went into storage for decades.

Bringing the 1971 Dodge Charger out of hiding

The car’s racing history reads like a who’s who of legends in the industry.

It’s been driven by the likes of Johnny Benson and Frank Warren, if you’re into your motor racing.

However, when it came time to bring it to Talladega, Alabama for the ARCA race, things went wrong.

It was in this 1977 race that the car’s engine would blow, leading it to being stored away.

Back in 2020, the ins and outs of how the car came to stay in the barn were contested in a public Facebook post.

Fast forward to 2024, and the Charger is now going up for auction.

The extensive history and backstory of the Charger helps gin up gathered onlookers to place a bid on it.

In the end, it only went for $12,000.

That’s a remarkably good bargain for a car with such history.

There’s dollar bills that have gone for more.

Whether or not its new owner will get up and running again remains to be seen.

Having spent close to 50 years out of commission, this Charger was more of a barn dweller than a garage queen.

Other cars that went on auction

Other vehicles featured in this auction included a 1916 Ford C Series truck, a 1955 Jeep CJ5 and a 1956 Chevy flatbed with a fishtank.

Yes, you read that right – a fishtank.

The owners ran a camp ground and would host fishing competitions there.

Presumably this truck was used to haul the winnings back.

Given how some barn finds have gone previously, it’s a small mercy that no fish were left in the truck.

It’s certainly better than finding a car that has played host to a bunch of mice.
