The newly launched all-electric 2025 Rivian R1S has been branded ‘the ultimate Swiss army knife’ due to its incredible versatility.

Rivian launched the R1S in 2022, after spending a decade in development.

The Rivian R1S is now in its second generation, and the 2025 model is more outdoors-ready than ever before.

There’s also a bunch of accessories available that can basically turn your R1S into a traveling campsite.

The 2025 Rivian R1S offers versatility and top-notch off-roading

The 2025 Rivian R1S doesn’t look too dissimilar to the original R1S, but beyond its looks, the SUV has had a significant upgrade, including new electrical architecture, retuned suspension, and a new motor arrangement.

It’s also so versatile, it’s been compared to a Swiss army knife.

The tri-motor arrangement offers 805hp and 1,105 lb-ft of torque, which means the Rivian R1S can do 0-60mph in just 2.9 seconds, which is impressive for a car of this size.

It’s powered by a 141.5kWh battery and has a range of between 371 and 405 miles, depending on which settings you choose and how you drive.

While the EV is a reliable option for roads and highways, it really comes into its own in the great outdoors.

The Rivian R1S is the ideal camping companion, as a reviewer from Clean Technica recently discovered.

He took the vehicle on an eight-day trip into the deserts of Sedona, Arizona, and essentially set up camp inside the car.

The size of the R1S means there’s plenty of room to throw down a mattress, much like some folks have done with their Tesla Cybertrucks

As well as offering enough space to stretch out, the R1S has a ‘Camp Mode’ which allows the SUV to maintain whatever temperature you want through the night.

You can also keep outlets running, so you can charge your phone, or plug in a fridge to keep you fed and watered while you camp.

Clever, right?

After spending a week in the car, the reviewer was left seriously impressed and said it was extremely capable for a number of outdoor adventures, from camping to biking and hiking.

“All told, the Rivian R1S is the ultimate Swiss army knife for modern urban adventures,” he added.

How much will the 2025 R1S cost?

Alongside the tri-motor 2025 Rivian R1S, the brand has also launched a beefier quad-motor option.

The quad-motor produces 1,025hp and 1198lb-ft of torque and has a slightly faster 0-60mph time of 2.5 seconds. Impressive.

Pricing for the 2025 Rivian R1S Dual Motor starts at $77,700, with the Standard LFP battery. If you want the Large battery option, you’re looking at $84,700, or $91,700 for the Max pack.

The Max Pack Tri Motor model starts at $107,700.

As yet, the company hasn’t revealed pricing for the R1S Quad Motor.
