Both the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Tesla Cybertruck are impressive examples of EVs, but one very clearly outsold the other by the end of 2025.
Figures have been revealed after a full year of sales and Ford’s F-150 Lightning came out top.
But while Tesla pushes ahead, Ford’s F-150 Lightning has reached a very different conclusion.
The F-150 Lightning EV has been discontinued and is set to be replaced by a longer-range equivalent.

The Ford F-150 Lightning comes to an end
Why has it been discontinued, you ask?
According to NPR, Andrew Frick, the president of Ford Blue and Ford Model e, said that part of the decision to discontinue the Lightning EV was due to changes in the regulatory environment that were part of the whole landscape that prompted the decision.

The Ford F-150 Lightning had 27,307 sales, according to the brand itself.
According to data from the sales report created by Cox Automotive, 20,237 units of the Cybertruck were sold.
This seems shocking for a vehicle that is so widely talked about across the world.

We should note here that the elimination of the $7,500 Federal EV incentive also plays a part in both dipping of sales.
The elephant in the room
Now, we know what you’re thinking: if the Ford F-150 Lightning sold more than the Cybertruck, why is the Tesla is staying in production?
According to Business Insider, sales dipped 68% year-on-year in the final quarter of 2025.
Well, even though the Tesla Cybertruck clearly fell below target, there has been no word on canceling the vehicle.
Tesla is currently focusing on the Tesla Semi, and the new refreshed versions of the Tesla Model Y and Model 3, which boast Standard, Premium, and Performance trims.
So, the future of the Cybetruck remains uncertain, but the release of a replacement for the Ford F-150 is on its way.
