This 2025 Tesla Model Y owner said he wasn’t ready for how good the adaptive headlights would be.

YouTuber DennisCW took to X, formerly known as Twitter, with amazing footage of the headlights in action.

It was filmed during a 1,300 mile overnight road trip.

He deemed the LED headlights to be a ‘game changer’.

The Tesla Model Y adaptive headlights are amazing

When it comes to cars, headlights are often an overlooked feature.

They’ve changed a lot over the years – anyone remember the pop-up headlights that used to be really popular in the 1990s?

But they’re still changing, as this recent update for the Tesla Model Y demonstrated.

Creator DennisCW shared a POV shot to his X account, which showed him driving along a road late at night.

“I was NOT ready for how insane these NEW Adaptive LED Headlights on the New Model Y are,” he wrote in the caption.

“Just wrapped up a 1300-mile overnight road trip in the New Model Y.

“The Adaptive LED headlights are a game changer.

“It was insane how the LED lit up the sides of the road and highway signs – almost like someone put a spotlight on it.

“Can’t wait for this feature to come to all Tesla models,” he raved.

The clip was shot on a trip from Austin, Texas, to Los Angeles, California.

The new lights that make driving easier

On his YouTube channel, Dennis expanded on his thoughts about this innovative new feature.

“When you’re driving, you can see in the middle part of the road that the light if flickering or dazzling to turn up and light up certain sections of the highway,” he said.

“This is made so it doesn’t blind oncoming traffic.

“But it’s also made to light up the sides of the roads when it needs to be done as well.

“On the right side, each sign is lit up. It’s like someone has shone a spotlight on them.

“Driving at night is an absolute breeze with these adaptive LED headlights,” he concluded.

Essentially, there are two features to consider.

The first is that the matrix headlights track bends and curves on the road and adjust themselves accordingly.

The second is adaptive high beams, in which the light facing oncoming traffic will be dimmed to a normal level.

So it’s great that lights have finally come along that don’t cause issues for other drivers on the road.

We’ve seen previously how people with astigmatism can struggle with the severe glare of some LED lights.

Why have these new lights been introduced?

This feature is great for road safety – allowing for the car owner to see along darker roads, and sparing other drivers from being blinded.

Tesla’s VP of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy, confirmed the move in an interview with Jay Leno back in February.

He also indicated to Leno that other models would also be getting the feature, including the Cybertruck.

Regulations had held up manufacturers from bringing in the new headlights, but that all changed around mid 2024.

Mercedes-Benz and Rivian already rolled out their own, so it was only a matter of time before Tesla followed suit.
