The man who bought 240 Land Rover Defenders to make a huge profit is now taking on a different vehicle, hoping to achieve similar things.

You may recall that Charles Fawcett bought his haul of Land Rovers back in 2015, going on to modify and sell them.

He made a ton of money from the venture, but he’s not stopping there.

There’s a new vehicle that he’s looking to take on – and it’s a whole lot different from the Land Rover.

From Land Rover Defenders to new projects

Fawcett, the founder of Twisted Automotive, bought 240 Land Rover Defenders after he caught wind of them being discontinued.

For more than $10 million, he secured them in what became a complicated operation.

It was made all the more complicated when when Land Rover tried to stop this deal from going through.

At any rate, Fawcett made it work and kept the project ticking over.

But what would he focus his energy on once he finished up with them?

The answer came in the form of a 2022 interview with Powerhouse & Rib.

“My family, and in particular my father, have all shared a long-standing love of boats…” He told the publication.

“It’s astonishing that in the States, ’90s powerboats like the Scarab 43 are now considered virtually ‘throwaway’ relics of the past.

“Nevertheless, it was the Scarab that got me thinking as to whether I could take my acquired knowledge gained from automotive and reapply it to marine.”

What can we expect to see next?

Fawcett is launching a marine division of his company – Twisted Marine – that will endeavor to bring a luxury-customization ethos to Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs).

He called these the ‘4x4s of the sea’.

It was his hope that Twisted’s engineering experience could be applied to marine vehicles.

The first product – the Twisted T450 – is already in the testing stages and is available for demonstration.

Fawcett hoped that he could build ‘long-term relationships’ with bespoke, luxury designers.

It’s certainly a big change to go from Land Rovers to boats.

But if the previous work Fawcett and Twisted did on the cars is anything to go by, we can expect great things.
