This man suggested buying a $2 million McLaren Elva to save money after he saw the prices at the pump.

On the face of it, it sounds counter-productive, right?

Buying a $2 million McLaren Elva – with Lando Norris’ signature no less – doesn’t appear to be a sound money-saving strategy.

The people viewing his video certainly thought so.

Buying a $2 million McLaren Elva to save money?

Instagram user Toppick is a self-described car collector and investor.

So if there are two things you’d expect him to know something about, it’d be cars and money.

With that in mind, the advice to buy a $2 million McLaren Elva will undoubtedly take many by surprise.

It seems a little counterintuitive, no?

Usually, people looking to tighten the purse strings would look to cars in a leaner price range – like these Ferraris that are under $100,000.

We suspect there’s a certain level of sarcasm in Toppick saying anyone looking to save would invest in a $2 million hypercar.

But his ‘argument’ would still stand on one point – the gas is surprisingly cheap.

He filled up the car for $10, which is a bargain by any stretch.

Although we have a sneaking suspicion he may have only filled it partway up for the sake of the video.

It’s hard to get an exact figure on how much it costs to fill up a car’s gas tank in the US.

The vehicle’s fuel capacity and the constant fluctuations in gas prices make things complicated.

But if we were to assume a national average of $3.50 per gallon and a standard tank size of between 12 and 16 gallons, filling up could cost the average driver anywhere between $42 and $56.

Will people be following this influencer’s advice?

If we were the betting type, we would imagine most people don’t have $2 million around to spend on a car.

And even if they did, we doubt they’d consider $10 in gas to be a worthwhile trade-off.

People in the video’s comment section seemed to acknowledge the absurdity of the situation.

“Step one, buy a $2m car,” one person joked.

“That’s a race car, bro,” a fellow viewer wrote.

It’s certainly on the flashier side – even when wrapped in bubblegum pink.

Alex Hirschi, aka Supercar Blondie herself, got to experience the magic of the Elva for herself.

If you’re going to take one thing away from this article, let it be this: the Elva is a very nice car.

But it’s not a car for the light of wallet.
