It’s a common concern cited by those who are on the fence about switching to an EV.
So this YouTuber wanted to shatter the myth that batteries ‘drop off a cliff’ with his extensive assessment.
And what he found was telling.
Battery degradation put under the microscope
With EVs becoming increasingly popular, it’s only right that they be subject to more analysis.
Whether it’s investigating cost differences or claims of radiation exposure, electric cars are being given a thorough look-over by experts.
A subject of particular concern has been the issue of battery degradation.

With many wavering customers being dissuaded from buying an EV because of the fear of waning battery power, it’s important to lay out all the facts.
Now, YouTube channel RSymons wanted to find out exactly what happened to high-mileage EVs.
What were the key takeaways from this analysis?
Using data collected from more than 600 battery state-of-health tests, the channel found that EV batteries didn’t ‘drop off a cliff’ or fail without warning.
Battery degradation was actually faster in the first 30,000 miles, before slowing down to a more gradual curve.

Under 50,000 miles, the battery had 95 percent remaining capacity.
Between 50,000 and 100,000 miles, it was at 92 percent capacity.
Over 100,000 miles, this was down to 90 percent capacity.
Beyond 200,000 miles, it was 85 percent capacity.
As you can see, these are figures that are hardly worth panicking about.

How did a Tesla Model 3 fare?
Take the 2021 Tesla Model 3 for example.
The channel owned one which had 274,000 miles on the clock, and was still capable of 290 to 300 miles of range.
That’s down 40 to 50 miles from the range when brand new.
“Our Model 3 with a quarter of a million miles, never been serviced, can still go from here on the South Coast [Of England] to Edinburgh with one charge stop just the same as it always has done to be honest,” the host said.
“So, it really makes not much difference at all in the real world.”
Ultimately, every person will have to do their own research and come to an informed decision.
