Ferrari F40 Competizione

This heavily customized Ferrari F40 Competizione just hit the market for the third time in five months.

There are a number of reasons why this might be happening.

One of the reasons why buyers keep flipping this car may lie in the heavily customized bodywork and powertrain.

The F40 you see has been heavily modded and Ferrari isn’t happy about that.

The Italian supercar maker famously hates it when customers fiddle with its creations.

What makes this even worse, in the company’s eyes, is the fact that the F40 is rare – only 1,311 units in total.

In other words, buying this car may hinder the buyer’s chances of ordering another limited-edition Ferrari in the future.

Customizations

Almost nothing about this Ferrari F40 Competizione is standard.

The car used to be yellow back when it was competing in the Ferrari Challenge.

It was then restored and painted using a dark shade of titanium grey dubbed ‘Grigio Nardo’.

Now, this is technically a factory paint option, but repainting a rare car like this using a different color is a red flag in and of itself.

Another, much bigger red flag is the engine.

As standard, the twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter that powers the F40 makes 471 horsepower.

However, the car you see here was tuned with aftermarket components and it now delivers nearly 1,000 hp.

The cabin is pristine but equally unorthodox, coming in with blue bucket seats with red four-point harness courtesy of Sabelt.

The F40 has changed hands so many times.

In 2014, this car made an appearance on the Discovery Channel show ‘Fast N’ Loud’, and it ended up selling for $742,500.

Back in the summer of 2022, auction house RM Sotheby’s sold the F40 for an undisclosed amount in a private sale.

It was sold on just a few months later, again for an undisclosed amount.

It is now being offered by Barrett-Jackson and it is scheduled to hit the auction block with no reserve at the Scottsdale Auction later this month.
