This year’s Farnborough Airshow was quite the spectacle for aviation enthusiasts, with several aircraft showing off what they had to offer — including the Airbus A321XLR, which is the European company’s latest flagship narrowbody jetliner, and someone filmed it taking off almost vertically during its flight demonstration.
The footage is proof that even the upcoming generation of passenger aircraft has some cool tricks up their sleeves.
Although the A321XLR isn’t as large as a widebody plane, it isn’t that small either.
So you understand why watching it perform a near-vertical take-off is a sight to behold.

The video was filmed by an aviation enthusiast, who uploaded it to his YouTube channel called ‘In the air with Paul.’
Check his whole channel out if you like cool aviation content.
Paul, like most airplane admirers, loves watching planes show off their moves, while also creating informational videos.
Anyhow, this wasn’t the only demonstration that Airbus had in store for fans at the Farnborough Airshow.
There was also an Airbus A380 performing maneuvers in the sky by taking steep turns.
If you know your planes, you know how huge the A380 actually is, so the European manufacturer got some brownie points there.
After all, events like this Airshow are mostly for exhibitors to parade their brightest and greatest — when they’re not signing deals with airline companies.
As a matter of fact, the Airbus A321XLR already has some attention with several airlines wanting to get one.
According to the latest from the company, the A321XLR will likely enter service this year as it just received the necessary European certifications.
Everyone wants the cool new airplane
Drukair – Royal Bhutan Airlines has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to order two A321XLR aircraft in addition to two others from the A320 family.
For context, this airplane has some lucrative offerings that make the lives of both airlines and passengers a tad bit easier.
If you’re wondering why, it’s mostly about the cost savings.
The next-gen narrowbody jetliner uses as much as 30% less fuel compared to previous generation aircraft while having a larger fuel tank.
More fuel paired with higher efficiency further means that it’s an ideal choice for long-haul flights.
In addition, the A321XLR comes with a range of a whopping 4,700 nautical miles.
The ‘XLR’ in its name actually stands for ‘Xtra Long Range’ — so you get the point.
This is why it’s a tempting purchase for most airlines across the world, and they can even add new flight routes with the added benefits.
Despite these capabilities, taking off almost vertically is certainly something it’s also good at.
