This Alaskan dad purchased the cheapest Cessna plane he could find on Facebook Marketplace, before attempting to fly it home.

Luke, the host of the YouTube channel Dad & Sons Alaska Adventures, drove out to Selatna to pick up the Cessna 150.

This plane had been sitting unused for years, but an annual inspection suggested it was in good nick.

Putting a lot of faith in this, the Alaskan dad decided to fly it home despite a huge storm brewing.

Flying a Cessna plane from Facebook Marketplace across Alaska

It’s not uncommon for planes like this to wind up on Facebook Marketplace, in various conditions.

For one Florida man, it was a Dassault Falcon 20 listed for $115,000.

As you might expect, taking a chance on a secondhand plan is one heck of a gamble.

But when it pays off, it’s worth the hassle.

So what about this 1964 Cessna 150 that Luke from Dad & Sons Alaska Adventures discovered?

Well, he bought it and decided to put his trust in it by attempting to fly it home from Selatna, Alaska.

Would this plane fly again or was it a non-starter?

After sitting unused for years, there was a risk that this engine wouldn’t start up again.

Given how cold it is in Alaska, there was also every chance that the plunging temperatures could have complicated matters.

They decided to heat up the aircraft overnight with a generator and an engine-heater.

In the morning, the snow and ice had been cleared off.

When they attempted to start it, it was successful, so things looked promising.

The flight back home would only be one hour and 15 minutes, a lot shorter than the four hours it took them to drive.

Let’s just say, the flight home delivered some views that you could never get from a car.

Not only did the view deliver, but the Cessna did too – successfully flying them back home after years sitting untouched.
