Despite never having seen the real deal, this group of specialist Indonesian craftsmen is remaking classic Aston Martin and Toyota models as aluminum replica cars, and they are impeccable.

Where the import of incredible sports cars is illegal, why not make them for yourself?

That’s the ethos for this Indonesian team of mechanics, who are recreating Aston Martin and Toyota legends sight unseen.

Bali-based company Tuksedo Studio is at the helm, and their end products are sublime.

These aluminum replica cars are hand-crafted from scratch

Unfortunately for gearheads in Indonesia, models like the Aston Martin DB5 are not allowed to be imported into the country.

So heeding the influence of other specialist art makers, Tuksedo Studio has been making these classic cars itself.

In a video by Hagerty, the Studio revealed that they use low-res images from the internet to map out wooden bucks before mapping out the wireframes and moulding the aluminum bodywork.

Every single element of these 10,000-piece aluminum replica cars is built in-house, down to the wheels, glass panes, and interior hardware.

“The scope in which our work covers includes the creation of the body, chassis, inner structure, meticulous accessories, and detailed instrument production, all the way to the paint finish,” the studio representative said.

One of the flagship models they do is the Mercedes‑Benz 300 SL Gullwing, yet they’ve never even seen the real deal before.

Yet 70 years after the Gullwing ended production, this studio is still bringing the icon back to life, just with a different powertrain.

Spot the difference

Alongside the Mercedes Gullwing, Teksedo Studios also makes the Porsche 550 Spyder, Porsche 356, Toyota 2000GT, Aston Martin DB5, and BMW 507.

The aluminum replica cars might not run like the originals, but they certainly look like them, and serve as showstopping art pieces for any well-off motormind.

That’s why they cost between $200,000-$300,000.

While this gaggle of replicas might be the best we’ve seen in the classical genre, other mechanics have made some equally brilliant cars.

Such as this collection of movie replicas that went for sale.
