American finds New York license plate in his dad's collection after he passes away that could be incredibly valuable

This American found an amazing New York license plate in his late dad’s collection, and soon discovered that it could be incredibly valuable.

The son of the original license plate owner confesses to not being a collector himself. Not knowing the background of the unique plate, he decided to show it to license plate fans online.

Collectors were excited by the man’s find, imploring him to get it checked for authenticity. It could, potentially, be incredibly valuable.

The license plate has potential links to ‘government officials, city dignitaries, or extremely high-ranking individuals.’

After his dad passed away, a Reddit user was looking through his late father’s collection of license plates and stumbled across a real find.

The late collector had managed to get his hands on a classic ‘Empire Gold’ era License plate. Which, with the taxicab-style yellow and black, screams pure ‘New York’.

Even cooler than it being a 1973-1986 era classic New York License Plate is what is actually written on it.

It carries just a single number, ‘1’.

If you didn’t know your plates, then you might think that this would be attached to the first-ever car in New York.

But according to the new owner, he thinks it may be for ‘government officials, city dignitaries, or extremely high-ranking individuals.’

Reddit user u/cbass2010 shared a picture of his dad’s unique number plate. He also asked other plate collectors in the forum to see if they could provide him with any more information.

Commenters told him that if it were an official plate, then it could be worth a lot of money. It could even have links to city officials.

We don’t know if he got the unique plate assessed for authenticity, but we do know that his dad’s collection continues to delight even after he’s passed, which is a very nice thought.
