America’s largest RV company has come up with a genius idea, creating the world’s first range-extended electric motorhome.
While it might sound crazy, the RV market has stagnated in recent years, with innovations sorely lacking, but Thor Industries decided to switch things up a bit with its latest creation.
Enter the Entegra Embark 29V1, an EV motorhome that also has an internal combustion engine, making it well-suited to both short-distance trips and long-distance adventures.
While there are one or two caveats, this is a very innovative EV that might inject new life into the market.

America’s largest RV company has created an innovative RV
One problem with the RV segment is the lack of electric vehicles.
Typically, RV manufacturers buy a chassis from another company, such as Ford, Freightliner, or Spartan.
In those instances, the manufacturers might not have an EV platform, hence the need for combustion power.
Nine times out of 10, these have large gasoline or diesel engines that drink fuel.
Thor Industries, America’s largest RV conglomerate, has decided to switch things up a bit with its latest offering.
Under the hood is a large lithium-ion battery, with an electric range for shorter trips near home.

This technology comes from Harbinger.
Should you wish to go on a longer trip, the EV has a gasoline engine that spins up like a generator.
That gives the EV side more range, allowing for those longer trips.

This is the first range-extended electric motorhome
The Embark is proof that technology from cars has now trickled firmly into the RV segment.
It also means we now have the world’s first range-extended electric motorhome on the market.
Plus, it solidifies Thor Industries as America’s largest RV company.
The chassis was designed by Harbinger, with it being shown off to the world in 2022.
Based on its medium-duty truck platform, it’s also scalable, meaning more batteries can be added to it.

The electric motor under the hood produces 440hp and 1,140lb-ft of torque.
In terms of the EV range, it’s around 105 miles, and with the gasoline engine, you can go 450 to 500 miles.
The addition of the EV motor means emissions will be cut down by the Embark.
It could set the blueprint for future RVs for years to come.
