This is the Launch Edition of the Aptera and it’s a legitimate car.

Despite looking like a spaceship, the Aptera is slated to go into production this year.

And with it, Aptera Motors says it’s doing “something no other automakers have been brave enough to do”.

Aptera Motors plans to harness the power of the sun to create the most energy-efficient car in the world.

Called the Aptera Launch Edition, it’s defined by an ultra-lightweight, aerodynamic design.

In fact, it claims a drag coefficient of just 0.13.

To do this, Aptera designed the car with the help of AI and will build much of it using 3D printing.

It’s covered in solar panels, which not only adds to its otherworldly look but delivers up to 64 kilometers (40 miles) of range.

Because that range can be achieved by simply being parked in the sun, the automaker says it’s possible drivers will never actually need to plug their car in to charge.

Aptera performance

Aptera claims the Launch Edition will be powerful enough to accelerate from 0-60 mph in four seconds and reach a top speed of 163km/h (101mph).

It also says it will be able to travel up to 1,000 miles on a single charge and 40 miles of solar-powered driving per day.

Aptera says it already has more than 40,000 reservations.

And after launch, it plans to produce 10,000 units each year.

The company has ambitious plans and aims to scale extremely quickly.

In fact, it plans to have eight different assembly plants in operation around the world by 2028.

Aptera car price

Aptera Motors hasn’t revealed exact pricing yet, but previously said the cost would sit between $25,900 and $46,000.
