Arizona man makes an incredible car spot in the wild as he drives past McLaren F1 owned by second-richest family in the world

This Arizona man hit the jackpot in car spotting when he drove past a McLaren F1.

That alone would be cool enough, but this car has an extra distinction – it appears to belong to the second-richest family in the world.

And to think that this was driving along a normal street out in Arizona.

This car may be worth between $15 and $20 million, but it doesn’t even register in the top five most expensive cars in its owner’s collection.

This McLaren F1 is a real showstopper

The McLaren F1 spotted by this Reddit user is chassis #052.

It was originally painted Dark Blue Mica with a brown-cream interior, but is Titanium Silver with a black interior these days.

The car reportedly belonged to Lawrence Stroll originally.

This Canadian businessman is the part-owner and executive chairman of Aston Martin, with a net worth of $3.9 billion.

Other cars in his illustrious collection included a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, a 1958 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, and a 1967 Ferrari 330 P4.

Who owns the McLaren F1 now?

Around 2020, the car was sold and moved to Scottsdale, Arizona.

Nowadays, it has been linked to the Walton family.

No, not that Walton family.

We’re talking about the Walmart heirs.

In recent years, the McLaren F1 has been spotted around Scottsdale, making its way online frequently.

It’s not been confirmed outright that Rob Walton is the car’s new owner, but there’s enough clues out there to point in his direction.

The former chairman of Walmart is the 11th richest person in the world, with a net worth of $145 billion.

Walton and his family maintain a compound of homes in Paradise Valley, located just outside Scottsdale.

Reportedly, the collection also includes eight Ferrari 250s.

Impressive.

These cars are so rarely seen, so it’s a big deal when they’re spotted out in the wild

Whenever McLaren F1s are spotted out in the wild, it’s a picture-worthy moment.

Some of them don’t make it to the present day in one piece, unfortunately, as was the case with Elon Musk’s.

But for others, their sighting offers car lovers the chance to bask in the glory of an ultra-rare gem.

One California driver was left feeling ‘humbled’ after seeing a F1 making its way down Highway 47.

Following stints at LadBible, The Sun, The New York Post, and the Daily Mail, Ben joined the team full-time in February 2025. In his role as Senior Content Writer, his sparkling copy, the ability to sniff out a good story at 100 paces, and a GSOH quickly led to him becoming an integral and invaluable member of the writing staff.
