An Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro has smashed an incredible 49-second lap at Wanneroo.
The runs were achieved by drivers like GT World Challenge Australia’s Elliott Schutte and former Radical Cup racer BD Soutar-Dawson.
This car belonged to gaming entrepreneur Laurence Escalante and is believed to be the first track-only Valkyrie in Australia.
Escalante is also the owner of a McLaren Solus GT which set an identical record at that same track, so he evidently has good taste in cars – or that track is just really lucky for him.

This Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro has set an impressive track record at Wanneroo
Soutar Dawson gushed about his experience behind the wheel over on his Instagram page.
“There are no words to describe how incredible this car really is,” he wrote.
“I managed to jump in for a handful of laps and I was speechless afterwards.

“There are not many words to describe a car that is basically a two seater F1 car.
“To just jump in, being very careful, yet still drop in to the 49 second bracket at Wanneroo is mind blowing. Dreams do come true.”
The post was met with a positive reception, as many branded the achievement ‘epic’ and ‘mind bending’.
The video led one man to admit that he was jealous of Dawson’s day job.

This 49 seconds time beat out the previous closed-course lap record of 51.574 seconds which had been set by Tim Slade in a Nissan Skyline R32.

Lap records are being set all the time and some are really niche
When we think of lap records being set, our mind might go to the famous Nürburgring track in Germany.

But even there, more unorthodox records are being set – like this guy who used a diesel Volkswagen van to beat a previously held record by over a minute.
That made this van faster than some supercars, by the way.
Then there was this luxury Bentley sedan which set a winter lap record at a frozen Swedish military airbase of all places.
And could we really talk about records without giving a mention to the Czinger 21C?
It was a close run thing too, as it just narrowly beat out the Koenigsegg Jesko, the former record-holder.
