At JFK airport, cars can supposedly drive very close to the tarmac via roads and tunnels whilst jets taxi overhead.

It’s all to do with the roads that operate around the airport that allow passengers to reach a variety of different destinations.

One surprised TikToker shared their experience of witnessing the bridge in real-time.

But, it turns out it’s not the only airport with a surprise.

In New York’s JFK airport, you can get up close and personal with planes

Every aviation fan’s dream is to get as close to planes as possible safely, and in New York, there are supposedly tunnels and roads that make this possible.

One TikTok content creator described their surprise when driving under a bridge that gave the illusion of driving under the tarmac.

Creator emiliab3atriz shared a video of a two-story plane passing over a bridge and expressed surprise.

“Apparently, there are roads around JFK that drive you under the tarmac. Up close and personal with a Lufthansa Airbus,” said the creator.

And, it seems that she’s not wrong either, with JFK airport surrounded by many roads, including the Van Wyck Expressway.

“The Van Wyck Expressway (VWE, I-678) is a vital transportation corridor providing access to and from the John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport, which is a major international gateway to the United States, with 70 carriers serving 100 international non-stop destinations,” explained an official website of New York State.

The TikToker later commented directions and said: “Take the path to the TWA hotel coming from the west.”

New Yorkers reacted to the surprise view

“Grew up near JFK, that’s pretty normal,” said one user.

“I flew out of JFK for the first time a few months ago, and I was equally as shocked that we were rolling right over an active road,” said another.

“There’s a road like this in Ft. Lauderdale, it’s crazy seeing them so close” added a third.

JFK isn’t the only airport to have an exciting runway, either.

In fact, Georgia has the only active runway in the world that has two graves on it, but for an interesting reason.

Plus, the world’s bumpiest runway looks like a track made for 4X4s rather than planes.
