Fourth-generation Toyota Supras have been expensive for a while now.

Six-figure auction results aren’t shocking anymore, especially for late-model, well-kept cars.

But, every now and then, one still manages to cut through the noise.

This was one of those sales.

The fourth-gen Toyota Supra sale that shocked the auction room

The car was a 1998 Toyota Supra Turbo, and it crossed the block at Mecum Auctions’ 2026 Kissimmee auction in Florida.

By the time the hammer fell, the final price had landed at $220,000.

That number was high enough to catch even the auction hosts off guard, reacting live as the bids climbed

A nearly 30-year-old Japanese sports car had just sold for more than plenty of brand-new supercars.

This Supra had the kind of spec collectors chase.

Power came from the twin-turbocharged 2JZ inline-six, paired with the coveted six-speed manual transmission.

It also featured a factory targa roof and showed just 9,000 miles on the odometer.

That combination goes a long way in today’s market.

Later-model Mk4 Supras with manual gearboxes and ultra-low mileage have become the benchmark, and six-figure prices are now common for the right examples.

Still, there’s a psychological jump once values cross the $200,000 line.

It’s one thing to say Supras are expensive.

It’s another to watch one sell for this much in real time.

As dramatic as the sale was, though, it didn’t set a new record for the most expensive fourth-generation Supra ever sold.

This isn’t the most expensive Supra ever sold

The $220,000 result wasn’t a record for a fourth-generation Supra.

In 2022, a 1994 Toyota Supra Turbo with a six-speed manual sold for $232,000.

That car had around 13,000 miles and was described as completely unmodified, which helped push it past the $230K threshold.

That same year, a 1997 Supra Turbo sold for $230,000 despite showing roughly 53,000 miles.

In that case, the car had been fitted with a modified suspension, showing that mileage alone doesn’t tell the whole story.

For a car that spent years being modified, raced, and driven hard, that’s a remarkable turnaround.

And for anyone who still remembers when these were just used sports cars, it’s a number that takes a second to process.
