This McLaren was owned by Oracle CEO Larry Ellison and may fetch $23M at auction
The McLaren F1 is a famous supercar that had a limited production run, and of only a select number of cars ever made, and now one 1997 model is set to go for a huge sum at auction.
This 1997 McLaren F1 was owned by billionaire Oracle CEO, Larry Ellison, who bought the car new in 1997, a year before the run of cars left the production line.

In fact, it was one of just seven models of the McLaren F1 that were exported to the US as new, and is known as chassis no.062 after having just three private owners, including the Oracle CEO.
But that’s not the only thing that makes it unique.
It has had ‘numerous McLaren Special Operations post-production upgrades, including upgraded air conditioning, upgraded radiators, sports exhaust, and aluminium fuel tank,’ according to the listing on RM Sotheby’s.
Alongside the upgrades, the car was the 53rd example out of 106 racing F1 GTR models built in Woking by McLaren and even had to pass tests to be road legal in California.
However, rest assured that this car was never ‘modified for federalization’ after being completed and has only a mere 6,500 miles on the clock.
Plus, in other good news, the car is also legal in the Golden State today after receiving work, including new spark plugs, tires, and battery, alongside a rebuilt transmission in 2023, and just last year it was serviced by McLaren Philadelphia too.

But, when it goes up for auction by RM Sotheby’s, the car is expected to be sold for a substantial sum of $23 million
What makes the McLaren F1 so special?
The McLaren first hit the car scene in the 1990s and is universally loved by gearheads thanks to the power lying beneath the hood.
The car even set a record of 240.1mph and was ‘the first road car to be built around a carbon [fiber] tub’.
In fact, one variant of the model even used real gold on its engine – impressive, right?
Plus, the McLaren F1 is so loved by the Sultan of Brunei that he has a whopping $300,000,000 worth of the models in his esteemed car collection.
