Bentley unveils a new Bentayga with a one-off paint option crafted by a designer

Bentley teamed up with Supriya Lele, a fashion designer, to launch a new Bentayga S Mulliner in a spectacular shade of blue known as Nila Blue.

Both the name and the color are a tribute to sapphire, as in the gemstone.

Bentley hasn’t said anything about pricing or availability.

But there’s something they said that makes us think getting this Bentley might not be as easy as you might think.

The Bentley Bentayga Nila Blue is a production car… sort of

Supriya Lele was born in a small town in West Midlands, UK but her parents are both from India.

The name Nila Blue, stylized Nīla Blue with a little diaeresis on the ‘i’, is a Sanskrit word that means sapphire.

The entire body of the car is finished in Nila Blue, and there are also subtle Nila Blue accents to decorate the 22-inch wheels.

Bentley didn’t use the words ‘limited’ and ‘production’ when talking about this car, but they did say you can only buy one via their in-house coachbuilder/design studio, Mulliner.

Mulliner was behind the ultra-rare Batur, and so this makes it sound like it might be as easy and straightforward as buying a ‘normal’ Bentayga’.

Why Mulliner teamed up with Supriya Lele

Bentley has unveiled a long list of different colors and paint options through the years, from the one inspired by Monaco to a Bentayga covered in artwork.

In this case, Bentley partnered up with Supriya Lele because they wanted to create a new shade of blue from scratch, thus showcasing Mulliner’s ability to turn any color into a paint option for Bentley.

The result is a vivid, rich shade of blue that Bentley had never used before.

In a way, this is a bit of a flex for Bentley because the point is if you can come up with a color, then Bentley’s Mulliner division can apply that to a car.

More details about the Bentayga Nila Blue

The Nila Blue is based on the Bentayga S, and since Bentley hasn’t mentioned power upgrades, we can assume it still runs on the same 542-horsepower, twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 as the standard model.

For the cabin, Bentley opted for black leather upholstery with white piping and stitching.

Blue was only used to adorn the door panels and the dashboard.

We don’t know how much this will cost, but we do know the Bentayga S starts at just over $200,000.

It’s safe to expect a markup on the MSRP for the Nila Blue edition.
