Most people might associate Toyota hybrids with the Prius, but surprisingly, it isn’t the best selling Toyota sedan in the US.
While the Prius twins helped make hybrid tech mainstream, another Toyota has mastered the art of mass appeal.
It blends familiarity with modern efficiency in a way few cars can match.
And the sales numbers prove it.

The most popular Toyota sedan in the US
The Toyota Camry has been a cornerstone of the brand since it debuted in the early 1980s.

Over more than four decades, it has earned a reputation for durability, comfort, and long term value.
That familiarity has translated into trust, and trust sells cars.
For 2026, Toyota made a major shift by offering the Camry exclusively with hybrid powertrains.
Rather than scaring buyers away, the move paid off.
In 2025, Toyota sold over 316,000 Camrys in the United States, making it not only the best selling Toyota sedan, but the best selling sedan overall.
That figure dwarfs the combined sales of the Prius and Prius Plug In Hybrid, which together did not even crack 60,000 units.
A Rhode Island mechanic who has insisted for years on only buying used cars even bought a brand new 2026 Camry, proving how attractive the Toyota sedan is.
One reason for this dominance is that the Camry feels like a traditional sedan first, and a hybrid second.

Buyers get strong fuel economy of up to 51 miles per gallon, but also more power than the Prius, with up to 232 horsepower and available all wheel drive.
It is quicker, roomier, and better suited to family duty.
For many drivers making the jump to hybrid tech, that balance is exactly what they want.
In fact, Toyota’s hybrid cars are very close to overtaking its gas car sales in the US, so the carmaker’s strategy is clearly working.
The best selling Toyota sedan is very affordable
Starting just over $29,000, it costs only slightly more than a base Prius while offering more space, comfort, and performance.

Add Toyota’s reputation for reliability, strong safety ratings, and generous hybrid warranties, and the value proposition becomes hard to ignore.
The Prius remains an icon, and a symbol of maximum efficiency.
But the Camry’s ability to blend efficiency with normal everyday comfort is what makes it unbeatable, and why America keeps buying it in huge numbers.
