Bill Gates partied on the Abu Dhabi royal’s $200M superyacht – now it reigns the largest at Monaco Yacht Show 2025
The Microsoft has plenty of options when it comes to birthday venues.
For his 66th, he picked a $200 million superyacht fit for royalty. Literally.
Owned by Sheikh Suroor bin Mohammed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi, the vessel has already hosted billionaires and music royalty alike.

The superyacht that turned Gates into a passenger
The 351-foot ‘Mar’ first hit the water in 2020 under the name ‘Lana’.
Three years later, it was acquired by Sheikh Suroor – a senior member of Abu Dhabi’s royal family.
Since then, it’s been less a boat and more a floating palace, equal parts power move and pleasure dome.
Gates reportedly dropped $300,000 a day to charter the superyacht in Turkey, where he threw his 66th birthday surrounded by fellow billionaires.

But he wasn’t the only famous passenger – Beyoncé has also been seen aboard – proof that ‘Mar’ has become a magnet for A-list indulgence.
And the appeal is obvious.
Guests step into rooms with nine-foot ceilings, fossil-inlaid drawer pulls, and hammams lit like night skies.
There are eight staterooms, each as lavish as a mansion suite.
On the sundeck, a 26-foot pool is flanked by fire pits, a DJ booth, and al fresco dining tables glowing with backlit onyx.
For downtime, there’s a massage room, fold-down terraces at sea level, and a master suite with its own private side balconies.

Underneath all the glam, ‘Mar’ has muscle, too – powered by 2,800 kW electric motors, capable of hitting 18 knots.
For those who don’t have royal blood but do have deep pockets, it can be chartered for $2 million a week in the Mediterranean.
From Abu Dhabi to the Monaco Yacht Show
Sheikh Suroor isn’t just a yacht collector – he’s one of Abu Dhabi’s most prominent royals, known for projects like Etihad Towers and the Abu Dhabi Mall.
Adding ‘Mar’ to his portfolio was inevitable, a maritime extension of the opulence he’s surrounded by on land.
Which is why the vessel didn’t just arrive at the Monaco Yacht Show – it took over.

With Feadship’s $645 million hydrogen-powered ‘Breakthrough’ sailing out early, ‘Mar’ took the crown as the largest yacht still in the harbor.
It was the vessel people couldn’t ignore – the showpiece at the world’s most famous yacht show.
From hosting Bill Gates’ birthday to ruling Monaco’s waterfront, Sheikh Suroor’s ‘Mar’ proves a single yacht can be both a party stage and a power move.
