This company has launched a new jet engine with no moving parts.
While it may seem like something straight out of a sci-fi movie, a Baltimore firm successfully completed a test flight of this unique jet.
Wave Engine Corp., the company behind the intriguing jet engine technology, showed off its capability on an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).
Likewise, the jet strikingly picked up speed, took off, performed aerial maneuvers, and landed successfully.

The engine was mounted on top of the jet and looked like a car’s curved exhaust pipe but with much higher pressure.
Surprisingly, the company also managed to demonstrate multiple mid-air starts and operated its engines at airspeeds reaching 200 mph – equivalent to 322 km/h.
And it gets better because that is not the actual top speed the engine can achieve, it is simply the speed it was allowed to reach due to practical limits of the test facility.
Conventional jet engines typically include a lot of complex and expensive moving parts.
However, this new jet engine technology relies on a mechanism that uses pressure waves to move an aircraft forward.
“Intermittent combustion inside a hollow tube produces pressure waves that push hot gases and produce thrust,” Wave Engine Corp. mentioned in a statement.
Wave Engine Corp. also said these new engines would be significantly cost-effective and more efficient.
The existing propulsion systems have issues, including high cost and, of course, a great number of moving parts.
While this bizarre jet may look odd to some, it may just be the future.
Many companies are tirelessly working on new technologies for jet engines because their needs will only continue to grow.
The capability of jet engines is always being put to use, like in this flying car with four of them.
