Making sure timing is perfected even in the harshest of conditions, this Boeing 747 pilot cut through 45mph crosswinds to land at Gatwick Airport, London, seconds after another plane took off.

Most of the time that you spend in a plane seems to be a pretty smooth ride. Hours could go by, and you scarcely would have noticed, thanks to autopilot.

But when it comes to getting the landing right, pilots really show off their talent.

In this typically miserable and harsh British weather, one Boeing 747 pilot had to pull out every trick he had to keep the huge plane on track and touch down as if he’d landed on a cloud.

The Boeing 747 pilot had a tough landing at Gatwick

The footage was posted on YouTube by Topfelya.

The giant airliner is seen arriving at the busy Gatwick Airport in London, and as the Boeing comes into land, we can visibly see the wind rocking it to the left and the right,

It’s clear to see just how difficult the aircraft is to land by watching the control surfaces as it approaches touchdown.

The rudder can be seen kicking hard over to the right and then back to the left.

The pilot was trying to keep the jet as straight as possible.

While the Boeing 747 is a heavy aircraft, a crosswind of 45mph is more than enough to blow it around.

It can cause the pilot some serious headaches as he lands.

The aircraft touches down as smoothly as possible

There is clearly some supreme skill involved as the jet approaches the runway, as we can see that the airliner is clearly being pulled sideways.

Remarkably, though, the aircraft touched down as smoothly as you would expect.

The pilot leveled it out as it was just above the tarmac, and the actual touchdown looked very smooth.

With the back wheels on the ground, the Jumbo Jet straightened up.

The nose wheel was then gracefully lowered to the ground.

Not every pilot would be able to conduct such a smooth landing.

But this video showed just how skilled some of them are.
