After flying a 787 Dreamliner for most of her career, Boeing pilot and content creator CaptainCroft stepped inside the cockpit of an Airbus A320 for the first time and laid bare the differences on her YouTube channel.
Flying any plane seems like a daunting enough task, so much so that only a handful of people in the world can do it.
Especially when every plane is so vastly different.
Aside from merely being bigger, the 787 Dreamliner flies in a completely foreign way to the Airbus A320, and this long-time Boeing pilot just found out every difference.

Boeing pilot experiences Airbus A320 cockpit for the first time
Pilots very rarely need to adjust to different planes, with most of them staying within their lanes and knowing their cockpits like the back of their hands.
However, thanks to state-of-the-art simulators, pilots can now see exactly what life is like with a different set of wings behind them.
Long-time Boeing pilot, CaptainCroft, has now been able to get into the Airbus A320 sim at Brighton Airport, UK, and experienced how different this aircraft is.

With help from her Airbus A320 captain friend, Harry, the Boeing pilot was guided through the laws, behaviours, and controls of the plane.
Then, the sim flew into life, and they experienced takeoff and landing.
Every difference from her usual 737 Dreamliner
Despite being the two most popular planes in the world, the Boeing pilot found that the Airbus A320 was worlds apart from what she’s used to.
In her upload, she reveals that the ‘synthetic’ feel of the side-stick controls was a strange adjustment, but the auto-trim system allowed for a smoother takeoff.
The Airbus A320 also has a number of laws that limit speeds, in a bid to prevent stalls, whereas the Boeing pilot usually has free manual range to get going on her own.
But the roomy cockpit also changes the control panel around, as she claims that the A320 is more spacious, but the traditional Boeing layout is her preference, especially in windy conditions.
“I thoroughly enjoyed today’s session and learned so much,” she said
“The A320 is definitely one of those aircraft I’d love to explore more in the future, and it’s definitely on the bucket list for sure.”
But, is it a better aircraft to fly? Well, there’s a reason she chose to operate the 737 Dreamliner…

“Now, I’ll admit I still really enjoyed the Boeing way of doing things. Maybe I’m a little bit biased because that’s what I’m used to. The Boeing philosophy and automation logic just make sense to me more,” she added.
“Even though the 787 is fly-by-wire, it still gives you full control. You can stall it if you push it that far. The Airbus, on the other hand, is a completely different concept. In normal law, it physically won’t let you stall.”
