Footage shows Boom Supersonic’s XB-1 jet complete its second flight

Boom Supersonic’s XB-1 jet has just completed its second test flight.

The XB-1 is a proposed aircraft that could fly supersonic, and it would be capable of reaching speeds of up to Mach 1.7.

The best part is Boom’s idea is to turn this into a commercial airliners.

It’s an ambitious plan but, after successfully completing their second test flight, they’re one step closer to that goal.

How the second flight went

The XB-1 took to the skies for the first time earlier this year, and Boom said they would run another test by the end of the year, which they did.

During the second flight, the plane’s landing gear was successfully retracted and extended for the first time, which is standard practice when it comes to test flights.

Performance-wise, XB-1 flew for around 15 minutes, reaching an altitude of 10,400 feet and a speed of 232 knots (277 mph).

This is only a fraction of the theoretical top speed but that is something that’s reserved for future tests, because speed wasn’t the priority for this particular test.

Boom Supersonic wants to bring back supersonic flying over 20 years after Concorde took off and landed for the last time.

The goal is to build planes that can accommodate between 60 and 80 passengers, in an aircraft that reach Mach 1.7 and comfortably fly across the Ocean at supersonic speeds, thus halving flight times.

In order to do that, Boom has launched a new supersonic airline factory, which is theoretically capable of producing 33 aircraft every year.

It all sounds too good to be true but – with a little luck – in a few years we may be able to fly supersonic again.
