BYD's new factory in China will be bigger than the entirety of San Francisco

BYD’s new production facility in China will be bigger than the entirety of San Francisco.

The Zhengzhou complex is set to stretch out over 50 square miles, making it larger than the California city’s 46.9 square miles.

This EV megafactory is just another chapter in the Chinese brand’s meteoric rise.

The only question is…what comes after this?

BYD’s new factory is set to outsize San Francisco

Videos have been shared online that reportedly show drone footage of a vast EV mega factory currently under construction.

This BYD facility is based in Zhengzhou, within China’s Henan Province.

Not only is this is a huge building, but it comes with high rise blocks, a football pitch, and tennis courts.

It’s so comically big that it almost feels like a factory with a city attached to it.

Or a city with a factory with tagged on.

Back in March, The Sun reported that the factory is currently between Phase Five and Phase Eight of construction, indicating it’s nearly finished.

However, a recent report from Business Insider indicated that the BYD site in Zhengzou was currently around 8 square miles, as estimated by satellite images.

So still quite a way to go before it reaches the scale of San Francisco.

Either way, this space is absolutely enormous and it’s gotten people online talking.

The EV manufacturer that’s been making headlines all around the world

“Looks like Elon’s Tesla factory has some competition,” one X user tweeted.

“Damn, how can Tesla compete?” another asked.

“Wow, this is a staggering,” a third person commented.

It’ll be quite the sight when this factory is finished.

But for now, it’s just one part of BYD’s increasing domination story.

This year alone has seen the brand secure itself some great headlines, when it overtook Tesla for sales in Europe, in addition to it rolling out lightning-fast charging on the continent.

The company is also eying up the UK and Japan as places in which it can upstage Tesla.

And with plans to sell all of its vehicles in Europe by 2028, it’s not slowing down anytime soon.

Big plans require a big factory, right?
