Cadillac has done something at Le Mans with its hypercar that no American car has done since 1967, and fans are going crazy for it.

The 2025 Le Mans 24 Hours takes place on June 14th-15th, and qualifying for the great endurance race has already taken place, so look away now if you don’t want spoilers…

Cadillac has yet to win since it first entered the Le Mans Hypercar in the FIA WEC a couple of years ago. But it has just taken a front-row lockout for the 93rd edition of the event.

It’s the first time that an American car has taken pole position at Le Mans since 1967.

Cadillac uses the HERTZ Team Jota to run its hypercars, which officially fall under the LMDH segment of Le Mans hypercars, specifically for prototypes.

There are two segments, LMDH and LMH.

LMHs, like the Aston Martins, are fully bespoke hypercars, built from the ground up by manufacturers such as Ferrari and Toyota.

They use their own chassis, engine, and aerodynamics for the cars.

LMDH is similar, with manufacturers/teams using their own aerodynamics and engines in the cars.

However, the chassis is supplied by various companies, helping to cut costs for those involved.

Yet both types of cars are just as competitive each other.

LMDH cars also race in the American IMSA series, including Cadillac’s

Alex Lynn had the honor of piloting the V-Series.R around Le Mans to secure pole position for the team.

It’s the first time an American car has taken pole at the race since Ford with the GT40 in 1967.

And it’s also the first time an American car has taken the front row since that same 1967 event.

Lynn put in an amazing final sector around the circuit to secure the pole, while teammate Earl Bamber put his Cadillac second.

Many expected Ferrari, who won the last two Le Mans races, to take pole, but alas, it wasn’t to be.

First position at Le Mans doesn’t always guarantee success, such is the brutal nature of the 24-hour race.

Plus, Ferrari, Porsche, and Toyota will all be very strong during the race itself.

However, Cadillac’s qualifying effort is something to be celebrated.
