Like all EVs, the battery in the Tesla Model 3 can wear out over time, so now, after driving a vast distance, one woman has shared her experience.

After 150,000 miles, the battery’s true health was revealed, and the result may surprise you.

Different factors can affect how fast capacity declines, such as levels of usage and climate.

However, if charged super efficiently, the battery could very well last a lifetime.

The most important element of any EV? The battery

EVs have a prized possession hiding under their shiny exterior, the battery, which, let’s face it, is their most vital element.

So keeping them healthy is paramount.

For Tesla owners, their batteries can be cleverly tested to see how well they are performing, or if any work needs to be done.

So, to really test the strength and durability of her 2018 Long Range Tesla Model 3, YouTuber CallasEV decided to run the all-important test after 150,000 miles.

After closely documenting the progress and performance of her other Tesla models over the course of seven years, she was curious as to what the result would be.

The Tesla Model 3 in question was bought brand new and still had the original battery pack.

The EV was also used in the state of Arizona, in temperatures of over 43 degrees, which put extra stress on the powerhouse.

CallasEV did note that the car has been ‘incredibly reliable’ over the course of ownership, too.

For the test to take place, the Model 3 has to be under a level of 20 percent charge.

At this point, the car will fully discharge the battery to zero before juicing back up to 100 percent.

Guiding the process, the creator explained that the test can be undertaken by selecting the settings tab on the interface and clicking through to service, and then battery health.

The car enthusiast started the test with her Tesla Model 3 at six percent at 3:50pm, with the test completing at around 8am the following day.

This is how the battery inside the Tesla Model 3 really fared

After the extensive test was performed, the results were in.

After 150,000 miles and over half a decade of ownership, the car’s battery health was 79 percent, which meant it was sitting at 58.5kWh of the 74kWh of usable capacity it came with.

In other words, the EV had a range of 240 miles per charge. As the original range was 310 miles, that represents a loss of around 21 percent.

Now, even though this degradation level was slightly higher than standard, it was still in the predicted range for cars at around 200,000 miles.

There were, of course, elements that affected this, such as road trips, Supercharging, and the climate of Arizona.

Overall, though, the degradation level was satisfactory, and there was still life in the battery for thousands of miles to come.

The creator also offered handy tips to ensure your car is charging efficiently, such as keeping it in the shade and only charging to 100 percent for long trips.
