On Boeing Road in Cameron Airpark Estates, the ‘garages’ don’t just hold cars; they hold actual aircraft, which residents use as their main form of transport.
This unique California community is where suburban living meets the runway, and private hangars are as common as picket fences.
Here, the work commute is never dull, given that many residents can simply fly wherever they need to.
And instead of lawnmowers humming on weekends, it’s the sound of engines warming up for takeoff.

Planes have the right of way on Boeing Road
Cameron Airpark Estates is a hidden gem for aviation lovers, home to about 128 pilot households who literally live with their planes.
The wide streets along the appropriately named Boeing Road aren’t just for cars, as they double as taxiways heading straight to a nearby airstrip.

That means if you live here, your morning commute might begin with rolling open your hangar door and firing up your Cessna instead of your SUV.
For longtime resident and retired aerobatic airshow aviator Julie Clark, it’s a dream come true.
“You sleep with your airplane, basically,” she laughed. “Not literally, but we have hangars attached to our houses or on our property.”

The community was established in the 1960s, designed from the start for people who’d rather fly than drive.
While it looks like any other suburban neighborhood, it’s actually a pilot’s paradise.
There are about 100 planes parked throughout the area, from small trainers to vintage warbirds.
Fun fact: on these streets, airplanes have the right of way.

Living here isn’t cheap
Resident Logan Peterson grew up in the neighborhood and started flying before he could even drive.
“My dad bought a plane a year before I was born,” he said in an interview with ABC10.
Now 22, Peterson holds a commercial pilot’s license, and his neighbors include everyone from former Air Force commanders to weekend hobbyists.

One of them, Carl Gremlick, a former B-52 pilot, summed it up perfectly: “People near airports complain about noise. I tell everyone we pay extra for the noise. We love being here.”
That passion comes at a premium.
Homes in Cameron Airpark Estates sell for 30 to 35 percent more than comparable houses nearby, thanks to the limited supply and sky-high demand.
But for those lucky enough to snag a property along Boeing Road, it’s worth every penny.
As Clark puts it, “The minute I hear something unique in the sky, I come running out. I’m still that way in my old age.”
