If you’re buying a new car, but aren’t sure who to trust, one study from Consumer Reports has put together a list of 31 of the best brands in the world, and one European carmaker comes out with the highest road-test scores.

Over 270 new cars and models were launched throughout 2025, and that number is only going to continue to increase in 2026 as brands look to find their sweet spot within the new electric era.

But how do you know which car brand is the most reliable? Which carmaker do you trust with your hard-earned cash?

Well, one report now claims that BMW comes out on top for the highest road-test scores, with a number of household names becoming increasingly reliable on the road.

There are a lot of factors to consider when buying a car. Of course, we can’t help with your personal aesthetic taste, but we can point you in the direction of the best value and the best reliability.

Already, we’ve got you covered with the top new cars that will get the best bang for 25,000 bucks.

Cross-reference that with these cheapest cars to insure, and you’ll be laughing.

But for those who want to find the most reliable and best-driving cars, Consumer Reports claims that BMW is at the top of the bunch.

Taking into consideration every current model on the market, the report scores BMW as 89 out of a possible 100, closely followed by Subaru, Audi, Hyundai, and Porsche.

The scoring system was judged by a mechanical inspection, a test track run, and smaller driving experience trials, including acceleration, braking, ride, handling, and accident avoidance.

Fuel economy and driving range were considered, alongside cabin space, infotainment capabilities, and charging compatibility.

Finally, mass surveys of owner satisfaction were taken into account.

While BMW is the imperious winner, many off-roaders come out towards the bottom of the pile, such as Jeep, Dodge, and Land Rover.

For the EV fanatics, Tesla and Rivian both slipped into the middle of the pack, separated by just two points.

Why is this important?

All of this is to help you identify which brands you can trust the most, which will be a consideration if you’re buying a car for a lifetime.

“CR’s road-test score helps eliminate some of the guesswork when shopping for a new car,” Consumer Reports Associate Director Alex Knizek said.

“It shows which cars have not just the best driving experience but also the best overall user experience.”

Unfortunately, the full scope of the data doesn’t break down which elements each car scored well on.

For instance, Jeep might be at the bottom of the pack.

But if you’re not looking for an intercity smooth experience with a large range, and instead want a comfortable and powerful off-roader with good fuel economy, it might still be a good choice for you.

However, what is clear is that for user experience alone, BMW is clear with the highest road-test scores.

And all of this comes just as BMW is set to launch an improved ‘Neue Klasse’ EV range.
