A car dealer was left scratching his head after being offered first-edition Pokémon cards as payment for a luxury car.
It sounded like a joke at first, but the offer was very real.
In fact, the numbers being thrown around made it even harder to ignore by YouTuber George J Saliba.
Suddenly, the worlds of exotic cars and collectible trading cards had collided in the most unexpected way.

Vintage Pokémon cards are in serious demand
Naturally, that raised some serious questions.
Pokémon cards have exploded in value over the past few years, especially vintage sets from the late 1990s.
First-edition base set cards are considered the holy grail among collectors, with certain pulls fetching eye-watering sums.
The hype reached mainstream attention when Logan Paul famously spent millions on a single card, driving hype even further.

But here’s where things get tricky, as not all cards are created equal.
A huge factor in a card’s value comes down to its condition, which is graded by professional companies like PSA.
A pristine card graded PSA 10 can be worth exponentially more than the exact same card in a ‘raw’ condition straight out of a pack.
For example, a holographic Charizard from a first-edition set could be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars if it receives a perfect grade.
However, the same card with minor wear could drop to a fraction of that value.
The car dealer is dealing with something out of his area of expertise
Even with a ‘money-back guarantee’ if no holographic card was found, the risk remained high.
Pulling a valuable card wasn’t guaranteed, and even if one appeared, there was no certainty it would grade well.
According to a card dealer Saliba consulted, in the worst-case scenario, he could lose tens of thousands of dollars on a single gamble.

Still, the idea was tempting.
The thrill of opening a rare pack, which is often called ‘ripping’, has become a huge part of the hobby’s appeal.
For many, it’s not just about the potential profit, but the nostalgia and excitement of chasing something rare.
In the end, the car dealer found himself at a crossroads: should he stick to the world of luxury cars, or take a high-stakes gamble?
While he didn’t make his choice on camera, one thing was certain.
This wasn’t your average trade-in negotiation.
