Extremely limited edition Ford GT40 restomod is stunning on the outside and very modern on the inside

This company turned the iconic Ford GT40 into a restomodded modern beauty.

On the outside, it looks roughly the same as the ‘standard’ GT40.

But the situation changes when you open the doors.

And it changes even when you open the hood.

The GT40 is possibly the most important Ford ever made

Ford has a long and decorated history with several icons in its portfolio, but the GT40 probably takes the crown.

The GT40 was famously created to beat Ferrari at Le Mans, which it did, three times in a row.

And then it became a coveted collector’s car.

It’s still quite rare, and this particular iteration is even rarer.

Built by South African tuner Cape Advanced Vehicles – or CAV for short – this supercar is limited to 40 units only.

But the caveat is: this is actually not a GT40 underneath.

It isn’t even a Ford.

This car is not what you think it is

The GT MkII, that’s the name of this restomodded GT40, was built to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Ford’s legendary 1966 Le Mans 1-2-3 victory.

Visually, it retains the low Ford GT40 silhouette and proportions, but it uses a modern carbon-fiber composite body.

And speaking of the body, keen-eyed car fans will probably recognize the donor platform when they look at the A-pillars and roofline.

Believe it or not, this is actually based on an Audi R8, which brings us to the biggest surprise.

So many restomods today are electric, but this one isn’t.

It uses a heavily modified version of the same 4.2-liter V8 that powers the R8.

In this iteration, it delivers 800 hp and 649 lb-ft (880 Nm) of torque, which gives it a 0-62 mph time of 3 seconds, and top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h).

Interestingly, this is an all-wheel drive car, and it’s available with a 6-speed single-clutch semi-automatic, a dual-clutch gearbox, or even a manual.

Thanks to its aluminum and carbon-fiber structure, it only weighs 1,350 kg, which is pretty good for a modern car.

We couldn’t find the price on their website, but it’s rumored to be around $300,000.
