This man bought a Cessna 182P as his first plane, and he took on a spin around the Australian Outback.

For YouTuber Outback Tom, buying a plane had been a goal of his for nine years.

Now that he’d acquired a ‘workhorse’ plane, it was time to make it airborne.

Would the experience be everything he’d hoped?

This man flew a Cessna 182P around the Australian Outback

The Cessna 182P holds 288 liters of fuel, which equals out to five hours of flight time.

Capable of carrying four people, and 500kg of load capacity, the plane can hit speeds of 260km/h (140 knots, in aviation terms).

Tom had found this particular plane going for sale in the Northern Territory, and a 15 week struggle to get a loan approved followed.

After transferring $74,512 ($105,000 Australian Dollars) to the previous owner, Tom was now a plane owner after nearly a decade of longing.

For his first flight without an instructor, Tom was flying from Darwin to the Kimberley.

No, that’s not a person.

In Australia, the Kimberley is a vast region in northern Western Australia, where just under 40,000 people live.

It’s known for its rugged gorges and dramatic landscapes.

And as if this wasn’t a momentous enough experience, his best friend Jaxon was along for the ride.

How did the flight go?

The destination was Kununurra Airport, where Tom and Jaxon’s cars were waiting for them.

On land, the journey between Darwin and Kununurra would take eight hours and 20 minutes.

Up in the air? A mere one hour and 40 minutes.

As you might expect, there was some nervousness about the landing – but he pulled it off masterfully.

It’s always cool seeing a pilot take on a big trip in a light craft.

For this California woman, her undertaking was a coast-to-coast journey in a Cessna 140.

And then there was this guy who got to land at an infamous airport after practicing on flight simulators for years.

It’s an epic achievement however you look at it.
