This cheap Audi R8 was brought to a Kansas mechanic a few months ago – and it turned into a money pit.
The Audi R8 in question went viral back in February after being bought extremely cheaply.
It was then given to this Kansas mechanic in exchange for a variety of parts and labor.
But it has since turned into a greasy money pit – where a smoking engine was just the start.

Car Wizard now owns ‘Iron Man’ Audi R8
Straight off the bat, you are probably thinking that you already recognize this supercar.
Well, you would be right – because it is a supercar that went potently viral earlier this year.
Back in February, we covered the story of Tyler Hoover buying an ‘Iron Man’ spec Audi R8.
The YouTuber – HooviesGarage – snagged himself an incredible deal.
It just so happened to be the cheapest Audi R8 on sale in the United States.
Hoover found the ‘Iron Man’ spec R8 while in Scottsdale, Arizona.
So he decided to buy it and drive it home to Kansas.
We then covered the follow-up story of Tyler bringing the supercar to his mechanic.

He ended up bringing his R8 to David Long, better known as Car Wizard.
The pair took a look at the Audi R8, before diagnosing the problems.
Initially, the repair work wasn’t actually all that bad – especially for a supercar.
But then, the bill started shooting up fast after diagnosing a catalytic converter issue.
Ownership for Kansas mechanic gets expensive – fast
And that is where the story appeared to have ended – until now.
In his latest video, Car Wizard explains that he now owns his dream supercar – Tyler’s Audi R8.
He explains that Tyler gave him the title to the supercar in exchange for various parts and labor.
Naturally, Long is thrilled – until he starts explaining all of the problems.
The first issue is that the car ‘smokes like a freight train’ when being started.
In fairness, Long admits that he knew about this issue – and that it was due to valve seals.
But there is so much more that needs to be done to get this car into top shape.
For one thing, $2,500 already has to be spent because of a cracked windshield.
Various cosmetic issues – including stone chips – need to be addressed.
Thankfully, the engine itself runs fine – apart from the smoking.
Long explains that the previous owner probably neglected oil changes – which left the valve seals in a state.
Then there is the matter of the brakes, which are completely worn – and the brake rotors and pads will cost around $3,000.
The worst part about all of this is that the prices are just for parts – the cost of labor hasn’t even been factored into any of this.
Car Wizard puts all of this into startling context.
He explains that, if you paid $40,000 for a car like this and you brought it to a garage…
It would roughly cost you another $40,000 to put all of this stuff right.
The video, which is more than worth checking out, serves as a stark reminder.
Cheap supercars, such as this Audi R8, rarely ever end up being cheap.
