The world’s longest direct flight has taken off for the first time, and it’s all thanks to China Eastern Airlines.
The flight connects two key destinations and covers over 12,000 miles.
But, there’s a catch: there is still a stopover in New Zealand for the plane to refuel, with passengers staying on the plane.
Despite that, though, the route is set to make travelers’ lives a whole lot easier.

The world’s longest direct flight: here’s what you need to know
Traveling the world is a dream that many people have, but reaching exotic destinations can sometimes come with struggles.
Multiple flights, stopovers, and modes of transport are sometimes needed, but not anymore.

Chinese Eastern Airlines has launched the world’s longest direct flight – from Shanghai all the way to Argentina.
The flight has a duration of 29 hours and covers roughly 12,427 miles, allegedly setting a new record.
This means that those in China can explore South America with time cut on their journey across continents.

Once the route and flight were announced, the airline explained that it would be in operation twice a week, with the mammoth journey available to track on flight sites.
The aircraft chosen to embark on the adventure is a Boeing 777 – one of the manufacturer’s most popular models.

After months of waiting, the airplane reportedly embarked on the world’s longest flight for the very first time.
According to The Global Times and Flightaware, the flight, CES745/MU745, set off from Shanghai before stopping off in New Zealand.
After briefly stopping to fuel up the jet engines, which reportedly takes two hours, it once again got on its way to its final destination, Buenos Aires.
At the time of writing, the airplane was still completing its journey across the world, with around six hours left to tackle.
You have to admit the distance covered is impressive, but the journey time may be a duration that only a few people can manage.
The new route could inspire other airlines to follow suit and offer journeys with a transit time like never before.
For now, though, it’s all eyes on China Eastern Airlines.
