As Chinese EVs are becoming increasingly threatening to the US market, this American has fallen in love with a $32,000 electric sports car, the ‘SC01’, that made him feel something he’s never felt before.

With Tesla in freefall worldwide, BYD and Xiaomi have come crashing through the market’s front door and dominated sales across Europe.

But it’s the standard and practical models that are doing the heavy lifting.

That’s why it comes as quite a surprise that the SC01 is actually a $32,000 electric sports car that blows people away. It’s even said to be better than a Toyota Supra.

American man falls in love with Chinese electric sports car

Chinese sports cars are impressive. The YangWang U9 electric sports car is one of the best out there, rivaling the likes of the Model S Plaid and the Lucid Air.

But this new competitor has stepped up to the plate at the modest price of just $32,000.

Known simply as the SC01, meaning Small Sports Car number one, it’s a two-seat coupe made by a tuning company turned manufacturer, Tianjin Gongjiang Pai Auto Technology – very Hennessey Venom vibes, just 100 times cheaper.

Blessed with 429bhp and capable of 0-60mph in less than four seconds, the modest electric sports car launched back in April, and now it’s beginning to impress American drivers.

YouTube personality Wheelsboy has just given viewers a run-through, and it’s safe to say that he is sold.

For the most part, the YouTube personality gave us a neat tour of the electric sports car, which does look impressive with its Supra-like looks and comfy interior.

But it’s the driving that truly blew him away.

The race-ready car might not be a commuter’s dream, with harsh acceleration, but for anyone with a need for speed, it was frightening to find such a motor in a $32k car.

“[It’s] an electric sports car that weighs as much as a Porsche Cayman, costs as much as a Honda Accord, and performs like a Ferrari,” the YouTuber said.

How great can these Chinese EVs become?

While it looks great and feels great, how does the SC01 stand out from the crowd of sports cars such as those from Porsche, Dodge, Chevrolet, and more?

Well, its price is the major selling point, with its competitors edging ever closer to the six-figure mark. Combined with a thrilling drive, it looks like you’d do well to find more bang for your buck.

“This thing feels alive in your hands – lightning-fast throttle response, immediate steering feedback, and a sense of precision you rarely get, even from much more expensive cars,” he added.

Its legacy might be hard to eclipse the YangWang U9 from China, which is the cheapest sports car ever to surpass 200mph.

But for anyone slugging along the motorway in a similarly priced Honda Accord, it might be time to reassess your options.

And that’s why Chinese EVs are so hot right now.
