This Chinese gym is offering a luxury Porsche to anyone who can shed 50kg in three months.
A fitness center in north-east China is behind this extreme challenge, and it’s allowing up to 30 people sign up.
To partake, a registration fee of $1,404 (10 Yuan) is required.
The challenge has drawn some criticism due to the potential impact on the health of participants.

Why is this Chinese gym offering up a luxury Porsche as a prize?
The gym’s fitness coach, identified as Mr. Wang, said that 10 people have signed up for the challenge so far.
Whilst not much has been revealed about the fitness regime, the cost of the challenge is set to cover accommodations and meals.

“This is a competition that challenges the limits. We provide professional training and dietary guidance to help participants lose weight safely,” Mr. Wang told The Telegraph.
A promotional poster made by the gym featured a photo of a white sports car, promoted as a Porsche Panamera.
However, Mr. Wang conceded that the car would not be brand new, and would in fact be his own 2020 model, which he’s driven for several years.
Key Features: 2020 Porsche Panamera
Powertrain: 3.0-litre turbocharged V6, producing 330hp
Top Speed: 164mph
0–62 mph: 5.7 seconds
Drive Modes: Normal, Sport, Sport+, Individual
Starting Price: $87,200
The challenge has led to a backlash
China has seen a rise in obesity in recent years, with more than 65 percent of adults projected to be overweight or obese by 2030.
However, scientists and doctors have cautioned against excessive weight loss in a short period of time, particularly for those who are not obese.

Several health professionals in China have criticized the challenge.
One influencer known as Dr. Zeng was one such critic.
“Unless someone is severely overweight, this pace leads to muscle loss rather than fat reduction, which can cause hormonal imbalances, hair loss, and even amenorrhoea [menstrual cycle disruption] in women,” he said.
The challenge would require participants to lose 0.5kg a day, but Dr. Zeng recommended 0.5kg a week.
The Chinese gym at the center of the controversy said the challenge’s intensity would be adjusted to the physical health of each participant.
It also said that professional coaches would be on hand to monitor progress.
Whether it’s healthy or not, this is one extreme route to take if you want to get yourself a set of wheels.
But people will do a lot for a car – as this man demonstrated when he took on the challenge of fixing a Jaguar XFR in 24 hours to win it.
And then there are the cars that are just given out for free with no hassle – Oprah Winfrey would know something about that, with her Volkswagen Beetle and controversial Pontiac G6 giveaways.
