A Chinese Rolls-Royce homage was put up against the real thing, and also compared to a Bentley in a suspension test, getting a shock result.
A replica version of a Rolls-Royce might not sound like a good recipe, but the car from Hongqi surprised in the tests, which is a bonus given its more affordable than its Western counterpart.
The Hongqi borrows design cues from the likes of Bentley, Cadillac, and Rolls-Royce, and that is clear to see.
Given the similarities, putting the two together in tests seemed like a natural thing to do.

The fake Chinese Rolls-Royce versus the real thing
The FAST and Hi Humans YouTube channels pitched an actual Rolls-Royce against the Hongqi version.
In a suspension test at 25mph, the two compared very well, with a glass of water used to test it.
After the run, neither car had spilled anything, even if the Rolls-Royce was slightly smoother.
But the test showed that Hongqi has not just replicatedthe looks of a Rolls-Royce.
They clearly worked hard to make it as close as possible to its rival in terms of comfort, too.

In fact, in the video, the Hongqi was described as being able to ‘serve as a restaurant on wheels.’
You may then think that the Bentley would have similar results compared to the Chinese luxury car.
But it was this test that threw up the real surprise.

The Bentley caused chaos during its test run
After the initial test, the Hongqi went up against the Bentley.
Any Bentley is super luxurious, and they are also renowned for their smooth ride quality.
But the British luxury car struggled after the two drove over a set of small speed bumps.
The Chinese car ran over them smoothly, with no loss of water shown in this test.
But the Bentley struggled, and there was noticeable spillage of water as it ran over the bumps.
The quirky multi-link suspension architecture of the Chinese car really came into its own.
This was boosted by the Chinese Rolls-Royce homage having hydro bushings and air springs.
The tests showed that Western cars won’t get to have it all their own way, as when rivals come onto the market that are better and cheaper, they could spell trouble for the traditional brands.
