This couple is taking their Cadillac hearse on a killer road trip to Denver and back.

Chris Diganci is a self described hearse lover, so he decided to honor his 1972 Cadillac Miller-Meteor hearse in the most American way possible.

By taking it on a cross country road trip, of course.

But things weren’t going to go smoothly.

What could go wrong taking a Cadillac hearse across country?

We all love a road trip, don’t we?

Nothing celebrates the vast and rich diversity of the US better than a cross-country car journey.

But with thousands of miles to cover, you better hope you’ve got a good car.

This 1972 Cadillac Miller-Meteor hearse was certainly long in the tooth, but age shouldn’t rule out a car, right?

Chris Diganci certainly didn’t think so, and he intended to drive it up to a hearse meet in Denver, Colorado.

After changing the tires and doing some other bits of preventative maintenance, he hit the road.

Around 45 minutes in, he realized it perhaps wasn’t the best idea.

The engine’s temperature shot up, leading Chris to discover he’d thrown a belt.

In Arkansas, things took a gnarly turn for the worse as mosquitos swarmed inside the vehicle.

That’s bad enough, but it’s doubly gruesome in a car without air conditioning – in famously humid Arkansas.

Chris and his wife stopped off at a gas station to dispose of their infestation problem.

It’s never fun having an animal set up in shop in your car – these guys restoring a mice infested Honda Acura NSX know that better than anyone.

Despite their troubles so far, they carried on towards the Midwest.

It was at this point they saw a car pulled up with flashing lights.

They pulled up to see if they could help – and the woman inside the car began screaming, Motorious reported.

It wasn’t the reaction they were expecting, but perhaps one that made sense considering a black hearse pulled up beside her in the middle of the night.

As they discovered, the woman had just stopped on the side of the road to rest, so besides getting a fright, everything was ok.

Was the drive home less chaotic?

After spending a night in a small hotel, Chris and his wife made it to their Denver hearse meet.

Surely the trip home would be smooth sailing, right?

Well, on the drive back, the car threw out the same belt in Alabama.

Figuring there was a problem with the water pump, Chris called a friend who sourced a new pump and resolved the issue the next day.

After a long drive, they made it home.

It was all very Planes, Trains and Automobiles. John Candy would have gotten a kick out of it.
