The US Department of Homeland Security spent $172,000,000 on snazzy Gulfstream private jets for its top officials.

The agency has splashed out on not one, but two brand-new Gulfstream G700s, the latest and greatest in private aviation.

Usually the jet of choice for billionaires, celebrities, and royalty, the G700 is now set to carry America’s top security leaders on long-haul missions.

But what makes the G700 worth that kind of money?

U.S. Department of Homeland Security drops a huge $172,000,000

The US Department of Homeland Security has spent a large chunk of change on not just one, but two brand-new Gulfstream G700 airplanes.

While these are usually the choice of billionaires, it makes sense that top officials would get the Gulfstream treatment too, because the G700 is the flagship of the Gulfstream fleet.

The aircraft has a maximum range of 7,750 nautical miles, meaning it can fly nonstop from Washington, D.C., to almost anywhere on the planet.

It also reaches speeds up to Mach 0.925 – just under supersonic – making it one of the fastest business jets ever built.

The Gulfstream private jets are penthouses in the sky

Inside, the jets are designed like luxury penthouses in the sky.

The cabin can be configured to seat up to 19 passengers across four living areas, including a master suite with a bed and private shower.

Large oval windows flood the interior with natural light, while advanced soundproofing makes the flight whisper-quiet.

Gulfstream has also packed the jet with next-gen tech: high-speed WiFi, full-cabin connectivity, and state-of-the-art communications systems.

The price tag is around $86 million per jet, which is more than the cost of many commercial airliners, but the G700 is aimed at an entirely different market.

It’s about speed, comfort, and range, wrapped up in cutting-edge engineering and luxury detailing.

For the Department of Homeland Security, the jets are billed as a mission upgrade, replacing an older aircraft that had been in service for more than two decades.

If you’re keeping the country safe, why not do it in style?
