A devoted Tesla fan who ditched his Cybertruck for a gas-powered Chevy Silverado says that Tesla totally missed the mark.
Marc Benton had been loyal to Tesla for years, but brand loyalty wasn’t enough to keep him when it came to certain jobs.
Citing cost, design, and practicality, Benton revealed the Cybertruck wasn’t built for real-world truck owners.
Instead, he’s now behind the wheel of a 2025 Silverado LT Trail Boss, and he said there were a few reasons why he would never go back.

Devoted Tesla fan ditches his Cybertruck for a classic American ride
Marc Benton, a long-time Tesla enthusiast, revealed on X that he sold his Cybertruck only months after taking delivery of the Tesla truck.
Despite still driving a Tesla Model Y, Benton said the Cybertruck wasn’t practical for his needs.
Instead, he bought a Silverado LT Trail Boss, which is a rugged off-road pickup with a traditional combustion engine.

Reasons he walked away from the Cybertruck
Benton’s reasons for walking away from what used to be America’s favorite EV were that it was too expensive for what it delivered, and he was paying a big monthly payment, but barely driving it.
He had range anxiety when he was pulling a trailer on road trips and feared the battery would run out when using it as a pickup, like it was intended.
Marc said that while the company nailed the software and tech, he believed the radical stainless-steel EV alienated mainstream truck buyers.

“They had the keys to the kingdom,” he wrote.
“Tesla could’ve built a slightly more traditional truck with their unmatched software and crushed the market. Instead, they built a niche product.”
The Silverado LT Trail Boss might not have futuristic features like the EV automaker’s Full Self-Driving, but it does offer old-school dependability and off-road capability.
Benton admitted he’ll keep driving his Tesla Model Y for daily duties, but when it comes to trucks, the Chevy Silverado just makes more sense.
It begs the question: can the Cybertruck ever win over mainstream truck buyers?
