Man spent 7 years building 74-foot boat in front yard with help of volunteers from across the world

This man spent seven years building a 74-foot DIY boat right in his front yard.

The most amazing thing is that what started out as a solo project became a community effort.

Several volunteers from across the globe contributed to his project.

The boat is now ready, and she will sail soon.

A 74-foot DIY boat

In an interview with the ‘Coolest Thing‘ YouTube channel the owner of the boat, Doug Jackson from Tulsa, Oklahoma, talked viewers through his a 74-foot boat.

After retiring from his IT career, Doug said he wanted to build something, because DIY projects have always been an important part of his life thanks to his dad.

He called it the SV Seeker, and he decided to start building it in his yard.

So, the boat is not exactly small, and even though it’s supposed to be a sailing boat, the vessel also has backup Cummins diesel engines.

Amazingly, as people became aware of this project, they decided they wanted to contribute.

Some did materially, with physical items the boat could use, while others did with engineering expertise.

When the video was filmed the boat was not ready yet, but she is now, and Doug said the SV Seeker will be towed to the Port of Catoosa near Tulsa.

When people turn DIY into an art form

Some people are just very good at DIY projects.

Out of all possible DIY ideas, building a ship certainly isn’t the easiest one but other people before Doug have also done it.

Somebody built an actual pirate ship out of a dump truck.

Then there’s the story of a couple who built not but two yachts and, just like Doug, they built the ships in their front yard.

MacGyver would be proud.
